A Note from Donna
===========================================================
Did you start out in June with every intention of making the
most of the summer? I know I did. I have magazines folded
back with hoped for activities, coupons for places we could
go and visions of bonding with my kids in the slower pace of
the season.
Now that August is upon me realize that most of those things
are not going to happen. In a few short weeks, we will all
back in the swing of things and into a new school year. But
since we're not there just yet, I'm going to enjoy to last
of it as best I can and I urge you to do the same.
So here are a few tips to help us savor the rest of the summer
and start gearing up for fall.
With you in the quest to making the most of the moments,
Donna Duffy

Making the Most of the Last Days of Summer
===========================================================
Didn't we just get last quarter report cards and DSTP results
in the mail? Can it be August already? Is it just me, or is
time zooming by? I have a funny feeling I'm not alone. But
before we put away our flip flops and suntan lotion, let's drink
in the last few weeks of summer while we start to switch gears
for the fall.
1. Work backwards--Look at your kids' first day back to
school and calculate how much time you have left. Put on the
deck those things you absolutely wanted to be sure to do and
then cut that list down to the one thing that you want to
record in your 2008 scrapbook. Is there a family member you
wanted to visit; a place you promised you would
go? Get it on the calendar and make it happen!
2. Get back in the swing...slowly! Now is the time to start
thinking through how things will go when school starts. What
do I want to have in place in September? I need to think
about that now. How will I make my life easier and more
streamlined so I can be available for my kids when they come
home from school. So I'm working through my plans for
the fall now and preparing myself and my kids for how
things will be. We can't expect them to jump to it just
because we turned the page on the calendar.
3. Get it together...slowly. Yes, that was looseleaf that you
saw on sale. So why wait till school starts to buy all the
supplies they'll need? Little by little, add to the stash by
picking up things they will need no matter their teachers
may ask for--we can add those things later. And don't just
think of the kids here--get yourself ready
as well. Folders, bins, and other organizers will help you
be as much on top of your game as you hope them to be..
4. Be a sleuth! In these last weeks of summer when the
pressure of assignments and tests still seems far away, keep
an eye on your kids and look for clues to their learning style
and approach. Do they tend to need you to spell everything out
for them, can you say it once and they get it, do they need to
do it to get it? What does their room look like? Neat, tidy,
organized?? No one under 18 fits that description at my house.
Do you need to hack your way through the piles of clothes and
clutter and they don't seem bothered by it at all? These are
indicators of how they will keep their backpacks, assignments,
and homework.Help them get organized now so that they will be
ready for a great school year!.

ONLINE TUTORING!Our Newest Addition!
1. Why has ACT added online tutoring?
To give our families greater choice for scheduling,
location and price.
2. What are the benefits of online tutoring?
Children today are very tech savvy and can find their way
around the internet better than we can. Online tutoring
helps the kids have more direct input and interaction into
their own sessions.
3 What if we want to do both?
No problem. We have programs to fit each family's
preference. You can do in-home tutoring, private tutoring
or a combination of both. Our packages offer full family
rates and multi-subject as well as minimal tutoring need
rates. We do our best to tailor your tutoring sessions to
fit your family's schedule, location and budget.
